Kia ora! Māori Mo Ake Tonu (Māori Forever) is a San Francisco Bay Area-based kapa haka group. Established in 2000, the group has developed under the leadership of Kaiako and Director Tracey Wihongi Panek (Ngāpuhi; Ngāti Rehua), and promotes Māori performing arts and language in an accessible yet culturally sensitive way. We specialize in Māori storytelling and performance, including classic and contemporary waiata-ā-ringa (action songs), poi, and the women's haka.
Beyond performance, we are proud to share our knowledge and experience as Polynesian diaspora, in community and academic settings. We have been honoured to collaborate with many community partners, including the Bay Football Club, de Young Museum, Oakland Public Library, Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology, SF Kiwis, Stanford University, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Auckland University of Technology, University of San Francisco, and more.
We welcome new members, and new opportunities to share Māoritanga. To connect with us, email Tracey Panek at panek.tracey@gmail.com.
